About the BRICS+ Webinar Series

The BRICS+ grouping, comprised of major emerging economies, has increasingly shaped the global landscape through its focus on economic cooperation, development, and reform. To foster deeper understanding and youth engagement with this crucial initiative, the South African BRICS Youth Association will host the “BRICS+ Thursdays” webinar series. This monthly online forum will delve into key themes impacting the grouping, featuring expert speakers, interactive discussions, and opportunities for youth participation.

The objectives of the BRICS+ Webinar Series:

Enhance knowledge and understanding of BRICS+ among South African youth and the Global South.
Promote critical discussion on key topics shaping the BRICS+ agenda, including expansion, financial systems, development, and global governance.
Empower young people to engage with and contribute to BRICS+ initiatives.
Build a network of informed and engaged BRICS+ youth stakeholders in BRICS+ matters.

Overview of BRICS+: Introduction to the history, goals, structure, and achievements of the BRICS+ grouping (February) :

Speaker: A prominent academic or diplomat with expertise in BRICS+.

Topic: BRICS Expansion: Examining the recent admission of new members and its implications for the future of the grouping. (March):

Speaker: A representative from one of the BRICS+ member countries.

Topic: BRICS+ Currency and Payment Systems: Exploring the development of alternative financial systems within BRICS+ and their potential impact on the global economy. (April):

Speaker: An economist or financial expert specializing in BRICS+ economies.

Topic: BRICS+ Development Bank: Assessing the role of the New Development Bank and its contribution to sustainable development in member countries. (May):

Speaker: A representative from the New Development Bank.

Topic: The Reform of Multilateral Institutions: Discussing BRICS+ proposals for reforming international organizations like the World Bank and IMF. (June):

Speaker: A political scientist or international relations expert specializing in global governance.
